Board of Director Applications

New Board positions are for a term of three years, with the possibility of re-election to a second three year term.  To be considered for nomination all nominees must submit the following information:

1. A completed Board Application form
2. Your current resume or CV
3. Your letter of intent

Guidelines for Appointment

The Nominee:

  1. Must be a members in good standing
  2. Should have previous volunteer leadership experience. AHA, Inc. committee or task force participation is preferred.
  3. Should align with the mission, vision, and strategic goals of AHA, Inc.
  4. Must adhere to the time commitment involved with serving on the board. There is one in-person meeting annually, in addition to monthly board calls, monthly committee meetings, and additional obligations from time to time. Directors shall serve without compensation. If applicable, reasonable advancement or reimbursement of expenses incurred in the performance of their duties shall be allowed, according to guidelines established by the Board.

 Responsibilities of Board Members

  1. Assist in the development of long-term goals and objectives that support the mission and vision of AHA, Inc.
  2. Take appropriate action to safeguard the assets and investments of AHA, Inc.
  3. Make decisions and establish policies that conform to the AHA, Inc. Bylaws as well as federal, state, and local laws.
  4. Effectively communicate the AHA, Inc. vision and mission to various stakeholder groups.
  5. Work with other Board Members and the Board President in the oversight of the operations of AHA, Inc. business.  This includes oversight of the Executive Director, including annual evaluation of their job performance.  Assist in oversight of operational policies and procedures.
  6. Keep abreast of regulatory, environmental, legal, and reimbursement issues affecting members’ ability to incorporate hippotherapy into their current practice.
  7. Seek to be knowledgeable in all concerns affecting the AHA, Inc.
  8. Give approval of the annual operating budget and financial proposals.
  9. Represent AHA, Inc. at public functions or conferences when requested.
  10. Hold all matters involving the AHA, Inc. in confidence until they are publicly disclosed.
