(AHA, Inc) is pleased to see a recent increase in the interest of hippotherapy as a treatment tool in the news and social media.  In the interest of promoting accurate information about the inclusion of hippotherapy in occupational therapy, physical therapy and speech language pathology services, the AHA Inc. has developed a press kit for your use any time you or your practice are being interviewed or receiving press coverage.  It is recommended that this information is shared with reporters and the media when therapists or facilities offering therapy services including the horse are interviewed.

Position Statement on Coding and Billing Practices When Hippotherapy is part of plan of care:

It is the position of the American Hippotherapy Association Inc. that therapy professionals should use the Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HPCS) Level 1 Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) codes when coding and billing for occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech-language pathology services where hippotherapy is part of the skilled intervention that has been incorporated into a plan of care.
