Description

Riding therapy (hippotherapy) is a novel progressive and original method for treating infantile cerebral palsy (ICP) and can be applied early in life. We examined 100 ICP patients aged from 3 to 14 years, who were divided into two equal groups, one assigned to riding therapy and the other (control) to therapeutic exercises by the Bobath method.

6 point scale scores of hyperkineses of the face, trunk, and extremities; Spasticity 4 point scale; In assessment of the motor activity of a child on horseback, the qual- ities of the seat, the maintenance of balance, the holding of the reins, changes in the body position, and the manipulating function of the hands were taken into consideration and each rated on 5 point scale with sum of score calculated at end of examination.
